The Workshop Musical Act I
The Workshop Musical Act II
World-Premiere of Unique and Rare Musical
Like the famed Broadway musical ‘A Chorus Line’ which was about various artists auditioning for the chorus line in a stage production, this musical is about various characters gathering together for a ‘Personal Development’ workshop.
That’s why the musical is called ‘The Workshop, A Dress Rehearsal for Life!’ The play is comprised of eleven individuals, of diverse ethnicity, occupation, sexual preference, who have individual challenges, and seek solutions.
Their stories are funny, sad, and moving. What they all enjoy in the workshop, is the shared human connection.

Production History

Lynn U. Stewart and Chérie Carter-Scott, sisters and business partners have been conducting the Inner Negotiation Workshop since 1975. In this particular workshop people are invited to come with objectives (goals), and to create their own unique way to experiment with new ways of behaving. Our Inner Negotiation Workshop is like the yellow brick road in The Wizard of Oz. Diverse people come together with various objectives and through the group process everyone eventually finds their “Oz,” the realization of their dreams.
“We were especially touched by the story The Wizard of Oz. In the story, Dorothy travels down the yellow brick road in search of home. On her journey she meets the scarecrow who shares that he wants a brain. Dorothy and the scarecrow team up and as they head down the road they run into the Tin man who yearns for a heart. The Tin man joins the other two and further down the road they stumble onto a lion. The lion more than anything wants what he lacks, which is courage. Each one is searching for some part of themselves that they believe is missing. They all admit their deficiencies to each other, extend support for their individual missions, and empathize with the challenge presented. They become a team of individuals who all yearn for something, and they hold the possibility that they might somehow actually get what they want. As they travel down the yellow brick road they encounter adversity, challenges, and obstacles. Through their determination, teamwork, and commitment to get what each of them wants, they overcome all of the challenges and persevere to the end of their journey. They are all very different in appearance; their wishes are all quite diverse; and even though their capabilities vary greatly, they band together, capitalize on their strengths, focus on their common goal of getting to Oz, and support each other in getting their individual wishes fulfilled. This model for living implanted itself into my mind at a very young age.
Whether they want to find their heart, to discover their brain, to reveal their courage, find their way back “home,” or to find themselves, all things are possible. We invite participants to believe, to trust, and to overcome the obstacles, challenges, and blocks that they experience.
When I was five years old I fell in love with the theatre. From the time I could sit in a chair and focus, I attended every play, musical, or theatrical performance that was available. I sang with my family in piano bars, and I auditioned for every play that had any part that I might possibly be cast; and when nothing materialized I created my own productions. I dressed up, sang, scripted, danced, put on make-up, and performed. My nickname was Tallulah!
In 1974 I set out to create a similar reality for people through our organization. Our Inner Negotiation Workshop came into existence because my subconscious mind held the possibility of diverse individuals aligning towards a common goal, supporting each other in finding the hidden answers to their puzzles. That was the birth of the Inner Negotiation Workshop, an environment like the yellow brick road, with highly diverse people with various objectives, who through the group process everyone eventually gets what they wanted. Whether they want to find their feelings, stand up for themselves, stop the voices in their brain, tell their truth, believe in miracles, find the courage to say, “No!” or find their way back to connecting with themselves, all things are possible! In The Workshop, Randi, the leader of the workshop, invites each participant to believe, to trust, and to overcome their challenges, then breakthrough the obstacles and find their own answers. The workshop is about making each individual dream come true. The experience is as magical as the Wizard of OZ, only there are real people with common objectives, committed in one room going for their breakthroughs.
From my earliest beginnings my love for theatre magnetized these themes to me, “Dreams can become reality!” It resonated so deeply in me that I designed my profession around that premise.
When you combine dreams become reality with a group of individuals who are ready, willing, and able to breakthrough their blind spots, you end up with personal development meets musical theatre, and it is called, The Workshop Musical, A Dress Rehearsal for Life!
My sister and I plucked out our favorite segments from the Inner Negotiation Workshop, created scenes and then wove them together like a patchwork quilt. Songs started to come to me. The characters were singing in my head when I awakened in the morning. Lyrics flowed, melodies danced, and soon we knew that we had to produce this musical.
When we were introduced to Ken Davenport things started to move forward. Ken is a self appointed dream maker who helps non-industry outsiders build the bridge to making their dream come true. Ken saw something and he heard something different and special. Then he felt something resembling hope, passion, and a new way to connect the “Dream Dots.” He became our mentor and guided us to the right director, General Manager, Graphic artist,
Musical Director, Casting Director, and most of all, he believed in us and our musical.
My husband, sister, and I gathered our resources together to launch the “29-Hour Equity Read-through” on October 19th, 2017 in New York.
